Scrap Yard / Torch Cutting Booth
Challenge
Torch cutting of scrap metals and any metals that may contain uncertain amounts of oils and foreign substances.
Visibility was also an issue, since lack of vision created slow downs in cutting time and production.
Solution
We created a custom booth to isolate and pick up the generated smoke and fumes.
The custom booth design not only facilitated air flow, but allowed for dense smoke to be captured efficiently. The custom ratio of depth vs. width and height of opening is critical to create the cannon effect within the booth. Proper air speeds were also critical in moving the smoke and maintaining visibility for a continuous cut from the operator. No loss of visibility meant longer and more productive cuts.
The booth also has a special spark trap and filter arrangement that allows for a smart design of the filtering system in order to reduce the chance of fire and or explosions due to explosive dusts while meeting environmental and health & safety norms.
