General Electric
Machining Centre / Cast Iron Dust
Summer 2007
Problem
Large quantities of metal dust were produced at the boring stage thereby presenting a potential health hazard to employees.
Solution
A large enclosure with strategic vacuum filtration points was recommended to reduce the amount of dust coming from the production zone. This eliminated the maintenance issue as well as the surrounding environment control issue. The air is filtered and recirculated to surrounding areas within the facility. The pressure in the production zone remains negative to prevent migrating particles from contaminating the surrounding areas.
